Universal Access

Our Career Resource Center is open to all job seekers. You do not need an appointment to use our computers for job searching or résumé preparation.

The Employment and Training Center also has a variety of free workshops every month to help you become job ready. So whether you need to brush-up on your interviewing skills or are seeking hands-on computer experience, we have "how-to" classes scheduled to help you become job ready.
 


Free Job Career Workshops

Our One Stop is a leader when it comes to providing you with the latest techniques and information to assist you with your career. Whether you're unemployed and need help interviewing or you're currently working and just want to learn stress management techniques to cope with the demands you're facing, we're here to help!

Career Exploration (4.5 hours). This workshop will help you identify different career choices, using your personality, interests and abilities.

County Assisted Childcare in Today's Workforce (1 hour). Do you qualify for Erie County sponsored childcare assistance? Hear about the different types of childcare available through Erie County, eligibility guidelines, regulations, followed by a Q & A session.

Discover Interest Inventory (2 hours). Discover is an assessment tool used for career exploration which looks at your interests, abilities and values. Prerequisite; must have basic computer skills.

Effective Telephone Techniques (1 hour). This workshop will provide practical tips on how to improve your telephone skills. You will be more aware of the importance of effective communication and active listening.

English as a Second Language or "ESL" (3 hours per class). If you're having trouble finding work because of language barriers or need to improve your English, then this no-cost class is for you. Sponsored through Erie 2 BOCES.

How Can Social Services Help You? (1 hour). This workshop will provide a brief overview of programs and services available through Erie County Department of Social Services. Application processes and guidelines for services such as cash assistance, food stamps, Medicaid and Family Health Plus as well as Home Energy Assistance and Childcare will be discussed.

Job Searching Using the Internet (3 hours). This workshop provides you with an introduction to employment resources available on the World Wide Web. It is designed to improve your Internet knowledge and provide information in order to enhance your employment opportunities. Prerequisite: Mouse dexterity and knowledge of Microsoft Windows are required for this workshop. If you do not have mouse dexterity, a mouse tutorial is available. Job Training for Demand Occupations Workshop (1 -2 hours). If you live in Erie County and you think that you may need occupational training to become employable, then come to this workshop and learn how Workforce Investment Act tuition assistance could help you. At this workshop, you will learn about our eligibility guidelines, processes, and will be given "next steps." The workshop instructor will also try to answer some of your general questions. Prerequisite - attendants must have attended an Information Session at the ECC One Stop.

Managing Your Stress (1 hour). Understanding triggers that happen and learn how to promote good health and positive energy.

Modern Interview Techniques (1.5 hours). Learn how to make a positive impression and answer some of the most common interview questions.

One Stop Informational (approximately 2 hours). An overview of the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). Information on self directed services for individuals seeking to improve their place in the workforce and an overview of the options available to customers.

Info Session at the DOL Office (2-hours). This Info Session will be held at the Williamsville Department of Labor (DOL) office 4175 Transit Rd. An overview will be given of the One Stop system under the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). Information on self directed services for individuals seeking to improve their place in the workforce.

Posting Your Resume on the Internet (3 hours). This workshop provides you with the knowledge and opportunity to post your resume on the Internet. Prerequisites: Completion of Job Searching Using the Internet and your resume saved on a 3.5 disk.

Resume & Cover Letter Writing (3 hours). This 3-hour workshop will teach you how to write resumes and cover letters.

Selling Yourself to the Employer (1.5 hours). This workshop encompasses selling yourself through body language, attitude and polishing your image. The rules have changed and everyone could use a little polishing!

The Technical Trades as a Career Choice (1-hour). Are you thinking of a career change to the technical trades? This workshop explores different career options in the technical trades such as working as an Electrician, the Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) industry, as well as Numerical Tool and Process Control Programmers. Learn about the typical workday in these fields, salary expectations, minimum entry-level qualifications and more.

Time Management (1.5 hours). If you are currently feeling overwhelmed or stressed because there doesn't seem to be enough time in the day to accomplish all of the tasks you need to do, then this workshop is for you. In this class, you will learn the 12 steps of successful time management, including strategies to deal with people who make too many demands on your time.

Computer Class at the ECC One Stop

Basic Microsoft Excel Applications (6-hours). Introduction to Microsoft Excel 2000. (2 Day class) Learn how to create and work on spreadsheets.

Basic Microsoft Word Applications (6 hours). This workshop will enable you to function in a Word 2000 environment. You will be able to create reports by copying, pasting, editing, aligning, formatting and other functions.

Basic Windows 2000 Applications (6 hours). This workshop will provide you with basic computer skills, using a Windows 2000 environment.

Intro to Basic Keyboarding (6 hours). This course will provide the learner with basic computer keyboarding skills.

Intro to MS Access (14 hours). Pre-requisite: MUST have computer knowledge in Windows 2000 operating system. Module III, Microsoft Access: Learn how to work on and create databases, spreadsheets. Create a query and print out reports. It's an 8 day class. Register for this class or register for all four modules (Word, Excel, Access & PowerPoint).

Intro to MS Excel 2000 (8 Day class) Learn how to create and work on spreadsheets. Pre-requisite: QWIZ test or completion of Computer Basics prior to registration. Course Requirements: 20 minutes TABE Math Survey, BPS Course Registration form and Distance Learning registration.

Intro to PowerPoint (4 Day workshop). Learn how to create PowerPoint presentations. Pre-requisite: QWIZ test or completion of Computer Basics prior to registration. Course Requirements: 20 minutes TABE Math Survey, BPS Course Registration form and Distance Learning registration.

Intro to MS Publisher (14-hours). After this four day workshop, you will be able to use MS Publisher to create various documents i.e.; calendars, greeting cards, flyers etc.

Microsoft Access (6 hours) Learn how to work on and create databases, spreadsheets. Create a query and print out reports.

Intro to MS Word (14 hours). Module 1, Microsoft Word: Learn how to create letters, forms, etc. This is an 8-day class. Pre-requisite: QWIZ test or completion of Computer Basics prior to registration.

Six-Week Computer Literacy (6 weeks). This 6-week course is the ECC One Stop's one-stop to job readiness program, providing the student with comprehensive instruction in File Management, Word, and Excel 2000. Students completing this program have the skills required for entry-level or higher employment opportunities.
